I'm Single And I Take Selfies. Deal With It.

Because I'd rather be "the girl who takes too many selfies" than miss out on capturing my adventures.

So, I really love pictures. And I'm really good at taking selfies. And no, I'm not talking about over filtered, high cheekbone, supposedly casual, how did she even take that, kind of selfies (although, I'll admit, I've mastered those too). I mean, I'm so good at taking selfies, I've easily fit over 15 people in one frame and they're all visible... and all holding a shot of tequila. Welcome to the family. I'm so good at taking selfies, that it's always my job among my friends to hold the camera. I don't need a selfie-stick (dear God, no), I don't need special filters, I don't even have the biggest iPhone screen, and I don't have abnormally long arms. I don't know, call me #blessed, but I've got a gift.

And here's something else you may not know about me - I'm single. (Yeah, yeah, we know, we know. You're single and you love it.) I travel, I go out to dinner, I explore new cities, I have lunch dates with beautiful views. I've been achieving life goals, I'm pushing my comfort zones, and I'm having the best friggin' years of my life. Yes, it sounds like a cliche, but it's so true. And the best part? I've been capturing it all through shameless selfies.

Hey, I'm single. I take selfies. And I like it that way. So, in defense of selfies everywhere, here's 5 reasons why you should turn that lens, angle downward, and take all the selfies you damn well please.

1. Because there's not always someone around to capture moments.

When you're an excellent masturdater (yes, you read that correctly), you spend a lot of time exploring places by yourself, which you know is awesome, but means you don't always have someone around to snap a pic. Good thing you've perfected the art of the selfie! A great background and no double chin? Yes, please!

(My favorite bridge in Central Park; The Pier in San Francisco; The coolest hike in NoCal)

2. Because life is funny and you'll want to remember this moment. Ever experience something so good, it needs to be immortalized? Maybe it's something that made you laugh so hard you almost (or actually did) pee your pants, maybe it's something that would only happen to you, maybe it's just really good timing. You know what they say, pic or it didn't happen. Prove it? You bet your ass I can!

(Two "calm" Italians; A well timed yawn; The cop drove us home from a run; I told them I had consumption)

3. Because your life is full of milestones.

You made a plan, you set your goals, and now you're crushing them. You should be damn proud! You should have those memories to cherish, and you shouldn't be afraid to share them with everyone you know just because you took your own celebratory picture. You accomplished those goals on your own, and so why not snap your own pic too?

(The time I killed a run; My new tattoo; Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge; My first medal - how fitting)

4. Because it's a good reason to squeeze together.

"Let's get a picture!" These can be dreadful words to someone who doesn't like taking pictures, but if you've gotten really good at quickly snapping a selfie, then you'll have a good reason to snuggle in nice and close and efficiently get a cute capture without pissing off your buddies. Win win. The more, the merrier... because it usually results in funny faces. Check out Grandma!

5. Because you won't look like this forever.

Yup. It's true. You look good, girl Get after it. Between dating apps and social media profiles, a good selfie will never go to waste. Your bangs are the perfect length, you actually nailed your winged liner, your brows are on point, and Mother Nature has gifted you with perfect lighting. I mean, seriously, the universe is begging you for a selfie, and you must answer the call. Indulge, my friend. Just, you know, don't post 17 of the exact same pose. By all means take a hundred different from slightly different angles, but only share the best one. ONE.

(Shameless selfie. Hashtag sorry definitely not sorry. Now go take some selfies!)
